As we leave Grenoble Airport, on our Grenoble airport to Chamonix transfer, we immediately head east for some 20kms before joining the A48 and heading north, in the direction of Lyon. After around 30 minutes of driving time we take our next major junction and join the A43 and start to head east again in the direction of Chambery. As we approach Chambery, now around 1 hour into our journey, we take the A41 north and head in the direction of Annecy, passing Aix Les Bains and Alby-sur-Cheran en-route. As we pass Annecy on our right we continue north slightly before merging onto the A410, heading slightly north east and in the direction of Bonneville, the start of what is known as the Chamonix Valley, we join the A40, which eventually becomes the N205. This will be the last of our highway driving until we reach our destination of Chamonix.
The journey time for the transfer from Grenoble Airport to Chamonix is anticipated to be 2 hours and 15 minutes (224kms). However, in making this estimation we are assuming that the weather and traffic conditions will be favorable.

Grenoble
Chamonix
Chamonix is famously known as being the mountain town at the base of Mont Blanc and sits at 1042m above sea level.
This large town offers something for everyone. It has a linked ski area between Le Brevent out of Chamonix town and Le Flegere in Les Praz. This area has 17 ski lifts, consisting of cable cars, chair lifts and drag lifts. It’s a suitable for all levels, offering nursery slopes for beginners and some very good off piste for the more hardcore skier! Slightly further afield are the smaller ski areas of Grand Montets, Le Tour and Les Houches. These areas are all accessible by bus and are included in your Chamonix Mont Blanc lift pass.
Chamonix also boasts the impressive Aiguille du Midi cable car, which takes you up to an impressive 3842m! Offering an insane 360° view of all the neighboring mountains, not forgetting Mont Blanc itself. Some tourists will simply take this opportunity to see the spectacular views, whilst others my want to dare some of the technical off piste this mountain has to offer.
If extreme sports are not your thing, then don’t worry! Chamonix has some great shopping, bars, restaurants and even a Spa with outdoor pool.
